Before Verizon spokesperson denied it, there was a lot of speculation going on about a possible Verizon iPhone release this year. But since there is no chance of that happening for now, the next big question is about the much speculated iPhone 4G release at WWDC 2010.
Apple's annual showcase event, the Worldwide Developer Conference is scheduled to begin in San Francisco on June 7 and one question which is on everyone's mind is: Will Apple CEO Steve Jobs wow the world with another game-changing Apple product at the WWDC? Notably, Apple had unveiled the first iPhone during the WWDC in 2007.
Tech world is abuzz with rumors that the Cupertino, California-based firm would launch a new version of its hugely popular iPhone 4G at the WWDC. The rumors got stronger after Apple discontinued the online sales of the iPhone 3G. “Apple has introduced a new version of the iPhone OS -- and a new iPhone -- every summer for the last three years,” Network World reminds us," reported Bloomberg.
Techblog Gizmodo had published images and video of what it said was a prototype iPhone 4G a few weeks ago, much to the displeasure of Apple. Gizmodo had claimed that the prototype was left by an Apple engineer in a Silicon Valley beer garden and the techblog bought it for $5000 from a person, who found it in the bar. Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney said that the Gizmodo-obtained prototype will “probably be more or less identical” to any new iPhone Jobs unveils at next week's
But with Apple we never know. The company is known for pulling out last minute surprises and it is likely that Apple may pull a fast one again and release a new iPhone which will be quite different from the prototype. It is speculated that Apple may increase the screen size from 3.5 inch in order to compete with bigger touchscreen devices like the HTC HD2 and Dell Streak, which are set to hit the market soon. Dulaney added that Apple has the option of mixing up the display size and release new iPhones of varying display sizes.
Meanwhile, experts, who are closely tracking the company said that it is likely that Jobs won’t unveil anything as remarkable as the iPad at the WWDC. The company has already produced three superb devices, the iPod, iPhone and iPad, in a short span of time,
Apple guru Andy Ihnatko said in an interview with Appolicious.com that this year's WWDC would be more focused on app development.
“Apple can't generate the same level of excitement about the third revision of the iPhone as they could with the very first iPad, or the very first iPhone,” he said.
“We've all seen iPhones. The mystery isn't there anymore. The initial puppy-dog phase of the relationship is long over and now we're just hoping that in 2010, the iPhone will stop leaving wet towels on the bathroom floor,” added Ihnatko.
