With Verizon executive Michael Maiorana saying that CDMA Apple iPhone is "inevitable" and its a question of "when" rather than "if", Verizon iPhone release expectations are once again riding high.

Maiorana though refused to comment on the Verizon iPhone 4G release date saying that such a speculation would hurt Motorola Droid sales during summer but his comments have reignited the hopes of iPhone coming on Verizon att some point of time.

Meanwhile, the sales of Apple's latest device- the highly advanced iPhone 4 defied all expectations in its first day on the market on Tuesday despite shortages and a technical glitch that prevented many customers from placing their preorders online.

Apple shares jumped 3 percent yesterday after the Cupertino-based firm that it received preorders for more than 600,000 iPhone 4s. This is a record for just a single day of pre-orders for any device released so far by Apple.

Apple, however tendered its apology for stopping the sales temporarily for now after the surprising volume of online interest overloaded order and approval systems and the company started facing shortage. Apple posted a message on its website saying that the products ordered then would be shipped by July 14. The iPhone 4 is set to hit the market on June 24.

AT&T Inc, the iPhone's exclusive carrier in the US also halted preorders due to shortage and said that sales would resume as soon as inventory becomes available. Experts maintained that the iPhone 4 would surpass sales of its predecessor- the iPhone 3GS, which was released last year. About 1 million units of iPhone 3GS were sold in its first three days.

Hapoalim Securities analyst Kevin Hunt said in an interview to Reuters that the iPhone 4 sales could reach 10 million per quarter. "At some point in the next three to four months they'll catch up. That's when they'll start hitting the 10 million per quarter mark," noted Hunt. "There is probably enough demand (to hit that number) in the third quarter but there's probably not enough supply," he added.
