A month ago there were unconfirmed reports that Google has tied up with Verizon to release its new tablet pc which will run on android. The reports have now gained more credibility.

Verizon wireless CEO Lowell McAdam said in an interview published in The Wall Street Journal that though no specifics were available the new is confirmed. However, neither companies have divulged any further details on the deal.
A spokesperson from Verizon, Jeffrey Nelson said, "If you source that piece, I wouldn't disagree”.

It was also learnt that the Android platform was designed to scale downwards to feature phones and upward to MID and netbook devices.

There have been plenty of speculations on the new partnership which has been announced close to Apple’s iPad launch and the news that Apple has sold one million devices in less than a month.

If the reports are to be believed then the tie up between Google and Verizon would make good business sense. This was shared by Chris Hazelton, research director for mobile and wireless with the 451 group to TechNewsWorld.
Hazelton is expecting that the device would be based on the Chrome OS rather than Android. Such a tablet PC could be more advantageous than iPad as it would bemore of a PC. Also, the iPad doesn’t have a file folder structure so it is a good device for devicing content but difficult to store data.
On the other hand Chrome OS would support cloud computing allowing users to access their files from anywhere. There is an additional security advantage in a chrome based tablet said Hazelton. The device could have USB ports and other PC like features.
Telecom analyst Jeff Kagan said that devices like the iPad “look to be the next big thing”
The only foreseeable risk for Google is that they have not yet been able to launch a successful product yet. Kagan said that partnering with Verizon was a good idea and they can put a good success story together with Verizon I they provide a great device.
Partnering with Verizon, however, is clearly "a good thing," Kagan opined. "Verizon
If the new device is as successful as market excitement suggests it could be, "this could be big for both companies," Kagan concluded. Following Apple's iPad, "there will be other successful competitors, and Google and Verizon make perfect sense."
