The FDA has released its primary report on the findings of its investigations at McNeil’s plant in Fort Washington where the company manufactures infant and children’s liquid medicine.
As per the report a bacteria was found in the Fort Washington plant where medications are made. However, Deborah Autor, director of the Office of Compliance, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the FDA was of the opinion that it would not be possible to say which bacteria was found.
The company has recalled products like Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec which are all infants’ and children’s medication.
Margaret A. Hamburg, commissioner of food and drugs.said, "We want to be certain that consumers discontinue using these products and that they know what to do if they have concerns about a specific product," "While the potential for serious health problems is remote, Americans deserve medications that are safe, effective and of the highest quality. We are investigating the products and facilities associated with this recall and will provide updates as we learn more."
McNeil Consumer Healthcare is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson and they had initiated a recall of the product because they failed to meet the quality standards.
"Although the danger to consumers is remote, we are asking parents to get rid of these products immediately," Autor said. "If parents feel their child needs these products, they should seek the generic versions." The agency is yet to decide on any actionable on Johnson & Johnson but any severe action looks remote as of now unless the company doesn’t comply.
Meanwhile, McNeil website says that they are already trying to address the problem in order to provide safe products to customers. The FDA has released its primary report on the findings of its investigations at McNeil’s plant in Fort Washington where the company manufactures infant and children’s liquid medicine.
