After launching a successful application for iPod touch & iPhone, Seattle based coffee chain Starbucks has announced a similar application for all Blackberry devices. Reportedly, the new Starbucks mobile app for Blackberry shall help all Blackberry users to buy coffee by employing a simple barcode scan technique.
Apart from buying coffee, the free Blackberry application also allows users to keep a track of balance on their Starbucks Card. The Blackberry Starbucks application generates a barcode which is then passed through a scanner for any purchase from Starbucks.
Chuck Davidson who happens to be the category manager of Innovation for Starbucks Card Unit told the media that the current application and its usage limited to a minimum number of stores both in Silicon Valley and in Seattle.
Although Chuck Davidson spoke volumes about the technology which is being used to design Starbucks Application, he refrained from making any further comment on sales module. It’s not that hard to guess how Starbucks is aiming to boost their sales through this Blackberry application. However, he underlined the fact that Starbucks is happy with the kind of attention that the application has received in its initial trial phases.
The application has a wider reach in terms of payment which is a faster approach than a credit or a debit card payment. Prior to this, Starbucks has also announced a Wi-Fi network for all its customers which is free of cost. Moving ahead, the company also have plans in store to come up with an intensified digital network by the end of the current year.
