Two Iowa-based egg producers have issued recall of around 380 million eggs and consumers must be eager to know that they should consume which type of eggs or food products containing eggs. Read this: Thoroughly cooked eggs are safe, but cross-contamination could cause problem.

Egg producer, Hillandale Farms, issued a recall of eggs that it sent to 14 states, becoming the second egg producer in Iowa to do so. Explaining the reason behind the recall, the company said “laboratory-confirmed illnesses” had been associated with the eggs. The company added that it issued recall from two plants distributed under the brand names Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms and Sunny Meadow.

“The eggs have the have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella,” the company said in its statement. The company did not announce how many eggs were involved, but it said that all eggs produced since early April were recalled.

Three days ago, another Iowa-based egg producer Wright County Egg had recalled 228 million eggs after being linked to a salmonella poisoning outbreak. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) claimed that eggs from the company have caused several illnesses in Colorado, California and Minnesota. The CDC added that about 200 cases of the strain of salmonella linked to the eggs produced by the company were reported weekly in the last two months.

The eggs were packaged under the names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemp and were distributed across the US.

If you have contaminated eggs, return them to the store for a refund or discard them. Although thoroughly cooking eggs kills salmonella bacteria, but it would be better to avoid eating contaminated eggs.
