Motorola's Android-powered device the Droid X, which was released by Verizon on August 15 is yet to receive the update of Google's latest OS- the Android 2.2. a.k.a. Froyo, but many websites have posted the unofficial version of the update and many Droid X owners are updating their device using the ‘alternative’ methods.
According to Droid-Life, Verizon has claimed that Droid X will start receiving Android 2.2 Froyo ‘soon’. Verizon also confirmed that Droid Incredible has started receiving the update and the Droid X update is currently in testing.
Meanwhile, Motorola and Verizon have warned Droid X users not to update Android 2.2 from a leaked ROM. The companies said that if Droid X users would use alternative methods to update the OS then it would not allow them to install the official update.
Motorola employee "Matt" said in a support post, "Do not load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the [internet]. There is currently no upgrade path from that load to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September. Unless you have some plan to flash your phone back to the current official load, you could be stuck on the leaked version."
The leaked version is not the final version and several reports claimed that it has some minor bugs. “Since Motorola isn't going to provide an update path from the leaked ROM to the official, final ROM, I'd highly recommend Droid X users sit this one out. It shouldn't be more than a week or two before the final version of the software is available. It's not worth getting stuck with a buggy ROM,” added the support post.
So all you Droid X owners, wait for some more days to receive the official update.
