The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a 112-105 loss against the Memphis Grizzlies yesterday, matching the longest losing streak i. This was Cavaliers’ 23rd straight defeat and they tied the 1995-96 Grizzlies and the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets. The Cavaliers can further go down in the history in a wrong way with a loss Saturday at home against Portland. It is to be noted that they lost 24 consecutive games over the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons.
In yesterday’s game, the Cavaliers were leading Memphis by as many as 12 points but they failed to continue the momentum and ultimately went home with another defeat. "Watching the guys in the locker room the one thing I can say is, guys are very disappointed in the way we finished the game," Cleveland coach Byron Scott said. "And maybe that's a good thing."
J.J. Hickson top scored for the Cavaliers with 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Memphis' Zach Randolph scored 29 points and 13 rebounds, while Rudy Gay added 26 points and 11 boards. "Guys are very disappointed in the way we finished the game and maybe that is a good thing," added Scott.
"Everybody was really quiet with their heads down. We're not playing to lose. We're not going out there trying to lose. I think we did a good job of playing hard. They say you can't win 'em all, but in the same light, you can't lose 'em all either.
"If we stay (focused), we can get a couple of wins before the season is over," added Hickson. Cleveland are yet to win a game since defeating New York in over-time on December 18.
