Apple is developing a cheaper version of the iPhone in order to fight the competition put forward by the handsets based on Google Inc.'s Android software, reported Bloomeberg citing two people who have been briefed on the plans. The report added that one version would be cheaper and smaller than the most recent iPhone and the new smartphone will come loaded with new technology that will allow the users to use the iPhone on multiple wireless networks.

It is to be noted that Android-powered are both high-end and there are some models which are selling at a low price. The range is price is one of the key reasons behind the success of the Android-powered devices.

The Cupertino-based firm is planning to sell the device at a low price mainly because the new device will use a processor, display and other components similar to those used in the current model. The source added that the new device will not use the pricier, more advanced parts that Apple is planning to use in the next iPhone. The report added that it looks a sensible decision because component prices typically drop over time.
