In an important development, the Federal Communications Commission has approved the first LTE (Long Term Evolution) hand set, the Samsung SCH-r900. We all know that Verizon, US’ largest carrier by subscription, is testing its LTE Network in Boston and Seattle. Is this a sign that we would soon see the release of an iPhone 4G on Verizon LTE network (Verizon iPhone 4G)? May be may be not.

Speculations continue to be on an upswing about the possibility of a Verizon iPhone. The latest rumor states that a Verizon iPhone would come in January 2011. This rumor has been strengthened by Bloomberg News Service who cites two unnamed sources supporting the claim. But, does that mean iPhone is at last coming to Verizon or like other previous speculations, the latest predictions will again be postponed? A recent survey done by The Yankee Group has revealed that most iPhone users are very happy with the service they are getting from AT&T, iPhone’s exclusive carrier in the US. The result must have come as a major relief for AT&T, which has always faced questions over not so satisfactory service. But it also raises a very pertinent question: Who are all those unhappy people who have been reportedly waiting for Verizon iPhone release? Apparently Verizon iPhone is one of the most searched terms on net and throughout rumors of iPhone coming to Verizon keep circulating. Its hard to believe that iPhone users are satisfied with AT&T when there is so much buzz about iPhone on Verizon. The Yankee Group said that 73 percent of iPhone users replied in positive for AT&T and 69 percent of smartphone users as a whole say they have no problem with their service provider. The survey results clearly suggest that AT&T’s performance is above average.

Cupertino-based electronic giant Apple has once again delayed the release of much anticipated white iPhone 4, citing manufacturing challenges. There are rumors that the delay has been caused by Apple’s pre-occupation with trying to find iPhone 4 Antenna issue fix. While some other unconfirmed third party reports claimed that the delay is due to the white glass material, a new theory emerged today claiming that the white iPhone 4 has been a manufacturing “challenge” because the company is planning to launch a “hybrid” model which would be compatible with both the AT&T and Verizon networks. Yes, Verizon iPhone again!

CultOfMac.com says that T-Mobile will host iPhone 4 on its network in September this year. The launch of T-Mobile’s iPhone will be followed by Verizon iPhone 4, a rumor that has plagued the web forums for months now. Reports of Apple granting iPhone contract to other carrier or multiple carriers come in the backdrop of declining popularity of AT&T services. The recent antenna issues in iPhone 4 added the burden on Apple Inc. to start looking for other options. It’s notable that Apple Inc has neither rejected nor confirmed reports. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has revived rumors about Verizon iPhone 4 release once again. Jobs at a Q&A session on the much-discussed iPhone 4 antenna issue briefly mentioned Verizon hence leading to speculations that iPhone is coming to Verizon in near future. A reporter during the session said that he was unable to repeat the so called “death grip” and a signal loss phenomenon at the venue. Jobs responded saying that Apple has towers for both AT&T and Verizon in its premises. “We’ve got strong signal here,” he said. “We have AT&T and Verizon cell sites on campus.”

Barclays Capital analyst James Ratcliffe has predicted that Apple’s Verizon iPhone will hit the market in the first quarter of next year. Ratcliffe said that Verizon would activate 9 million new iPhones by the end of the year and the launch of a Verizon iPhone could lead to the defection of between 500,000 and 1 million customers from AT&T to Verizon Wireless.

Speculations are rife that Verizon does not need the iPhone on Verizon network presently with the successful release of Droid X and an overall successful partnership with Android, Google’s mobile operating system. “Verizon could decide that it does not actually need the iPhone, thanks to its deepening ties with Google ,” wrote analysts Brad Stone and Jenna Wortham. But there are many (among them some reputed analysts) who think that Verizon will benefit from the iPhone. Even though a Verizon iPhone rumor has been doing rounds for a long time, the recent Motorola Driod X ad in New York Times where Verizon mocks iPhone 4 antenna issue, made most believe that Verizon is not likely to host iPhone. But, there are some analysts who say that in spite of these events, Verizon does need the iPhone. A recent Bloomberg report gives a Jan 2011 release date for Verizon iPhone 4.

Though rumor of a Verizon iPhone has been heard numerous times, another news gaining ground is Verizon not interested on carrying iPhone anytime soon, as it is doing well with its range of Android-based handsets. Verizon releases today its latest Android phone, Droid X, which is perceived to be an answer to Apple’s iPhone 4.

The rumors about the release of a Verizon iPhone have been going on for a long time now and a few days ago Bloomberg had reported that Verizon will release the iPhone in January 2011, adding fuel to the rumors. On one hand, nothing is yet clear about the launch of a Verizon iPhone 4, but we all know about the action lawsuit that has been filed against Apple and AT&T based on the charges of monopoly abuse.
