Motorola Defy: First Impressions

Motorola officially unveiled its new device- Motorola Defy three weeks ago and the handset was put on display by the company at the fall CTIA show in San Francisco so that people can know more about it. Motorola is claiming that Defy is a rugged handset, which is resistant to water and scratch.

The company also showed the promo video featuring fun-loving hipsters using the handset at a zany pool party in order to prove its point. The video showed that kids splashed a fair amount of water on the Defy while snapping photos but the phone was still working well.

CDMA Verizon iPhone Coming In January, T-Mobile, Sprint Also Likely Contenders: Reports

Rumor mills have started churning overtime in predicitng Verizon iPhone possibility. This time there is not one but two such rumors that add to the long list of iPhone on Verizon predictions. According to TechCrunch, Apple has ordered “millions of units of Qualcomm CDMA chipsets.” Considering that AT&T uses GSM network, the new developments point that Apple is working on a CDMA iPhone. However, it’s unclear whether it will be Verizon or Sprint who will break AT&T’s exclusivity deal given that both the two carriers use CDMA technology. But, Verizon seems to be the better deal for Apple as the carrier have more mobile subscribers than Sprint. There have been previous reports about T-Mobile as the next likely contender for iPhone after AT&T exclusivity ends.

Apple Procuring CDMA Chips for Verizon iPhone from Qualcomm

TechCrunch yesterday reported that Apple has placed a large order for CDMA chips with Qualcomm for an iPhone that will be released by Verizon next year. The tech website cited a source familiar with supply chain logistics to stress its claim. According to report, the CDMA version of the hugely successful iPhone will be manufactured in December and they will go on sale from January 2011. So it seems iPhone on Verizon will finally be a reality, if the report is to be believed.

Verizon iPhone Release Rumored At Year End Verizon Event

Rumors are strong that Verizon is planning to end the year on a high and it is being said that the carrier might launch the eagerly awaited Verizon iPhone 4 this year. Intomobile.com reports that according to leaked information, Verizon will start recruitment on a massive scale because the company is planning to double its retail staff in the majority of its retail stores across the US. The hiring is scheduled to begin within few weeks, leading to speculations that the company is gearing up to launch something really big in December. Once again iPhone coming to Verizon rumors start flying. But like I said in the beginning these are just rumors and nothing official has been announced so far.

Verizon iPhone: The Reason Why AT&T Commissioned BlackBerry Torch?

Here is an interesting observation by Elizabeth Woyke that I came across in Forbes.com. The BlackBerry Torch, which was released yesterday by Research In Motion at a press event in Manhattan, may help AT&T, which will sell the phone in the US, to retain its customer base if Apple decides to give iPhone to another US carrier (Verizon iPhone is the reference here). AT&T told Forbes that Torch, the sliding touch-screen BlackBerry, is its most significant non-iPhone launch this year. The smartphone will go on sale on August 12 for $199.
