Google-powered Android is becoming a serious threat to apple’s iPhone what with the big success seen by first Sprint HTC Evo 4G and then Verizon’s Motorola Droid X. According to a report released by the Nielsen Co., Android phones have outsold Apple’s iPhone in the U.S. this year. In the first half of 2010, 27% of the consumers opted for Android phones while 23% bought iPhone. Android total market share is 13% whereas apple and Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry have 28% and 35% respectively. Android still lags behind the two major names of the market and still has a long way to go.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has revived rumors about Verizon iPhone 4 release once again. Jobs at a Q&A session on the much-discussed iPhone 4 antenna issue briefly mentioned Verizon hence leading to speculations that iPhone is coming to Verizon in near future. A reporter during the session said that he was unable to repeat the so called “death grip” and a signal loss phenomenon at the venue. Jobs responded saying that Apple has towers for both AT&T and Verizon in its premises. “We’ve got strong signal here,” he said. “We have AT&T and Verizon cell sites on campus.”
