HP Slate Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs RIM PlayBook Vs Apple iPad: Tablet War

HP Slate 500 Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs RIM PlayBook Vs Apple iPad: Sometime in January this year, we heard news of a tablet coming from Hewlett- Packard. But that Windows 7 device never turned up within the expected timeframe and was thought to be called off by many. Anyways, it has bounced back now, referred to as the HP Slate 500 – with an enormous price tag of $799.

Comparing the HP Slate 500 with an iPad, one would gauge a relatively smaller 8.9” screen. The pixel resolution is almost similar with a very minute difference. The Slate, though, carries a memory that is approximately 8 times that of the Apple iPad, but is intended to come at least $100 more than the Wi-Fi iPad.

The HP Slate is almost double the weight of a Samsung Galaxy Tab and also eats 2 hours from the 7 hour battery life of the Galaxy Tab. With no dedicated Application store for the HP Slate yet, other prominent tablets in the market support thousands of apps that can be fetched from their respective markets.

Coming with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the Slate from HP do not supports 3G or GPS like the others. However, unlike an iPad or RIM PlayBook, HP’s tablet can accommodate SD cards for storage memory extension. Video calling which is not supported by an Apple iPad comes with the Slate through its VGA camera.

While the HP Slate 500 runs on a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab possesses a 1GHz ARM CortexA8 processor. Its 2 GB RAM is twice that of the Research in Motion’s PlayBook.

All this and more can be compared for the upcoming breed of tablets from various big electronic giants. Who will take away the sweetest pie is yet unknown.
