Soon after the launch of Verizon’s Motorola Droid X on June 23, without any news of Droid 2 release, speculations about Droid 2 started focusing on a year end release. Some industry watchers back this speculation with the offer presently available at Verizon website. The offer gives user an option to buy two Motorola Droids for the price of one device (buy one, get one free).
The finer print says buy a Droid for $149.99 and get one free. That comes to $75 for each device. However, even with this offer, it is expected that users get the two-year contract with $29.99 per month data plan. So, the experts infer that with this offer, Verizon is trying to finish off its Droid stock to make way for Droid 2. So, maybe Verizon is trying out Droid 2, a successor to Droid 1, which had a decent run and launched Android as the smartphone maker.
Beside, in case of Motorola Droid 2, it was reported that it is likely to have the same 3.7-inch display as in the first version and a range of internal updates, including Android 2.1, Wi-Fi tethering, a preinstalled 8GB SD card, and a new version of the Motoblur software. Moreover, it is expected that the copper square touchpad would be no longer in Droid 2. Besides, Droid 2 will be the fastest Google phone till date, according to blog Android.
Droid X was unveiled Wednesday and it will be available starting July 15 for $200 with a two-year contract. The device will have a 4.3-inch screen, 1GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video-capture and an HDMI-out port.
